#### BINHEX 500-cards-093.hqx ****
From "COBOhoLic! <REGY116@csc.canterbury.ac.nz>" Sun May 15 19:42:20 1994
Date: Mon, 16 May 1994 14:41:36 +1300
From: COBOhoLic! <REGY116@csc.canterbury.ac.nz>
Subject: 500 Cards v0.9.3
500_Cards version 0.9.3 - This release replaces all previous versions.
500_Cards pits you and your computer partner against an all computer
partnership in that favourite ol' card game; 500 - first team to 500 wins
(or first to -500 looses!). I'll avoid making any grand promises about the
computer players abilities - they're okay but can/will be improved. The
card-table window fits snuggly on a 9" monitor though more recent macs get
the advantage of colour!
New in this release:
* Added a LEVEL menu which allows you to select how 'confident' the computer
players are. There are four levels: Safe, Brave, Reckless & Frenzied. The
default is Safe and previous versions played just to the brave side of safe.
* Computer player bidding is (re)balanced to get them away from going no trumps
all-the-time. (I think I've finally got the balance about right, comments?)
* Reworked the main event loop to speed up the computer players. Much Better.
* Fixed a couple of graphics and GUI consistency problems.
* Edited the ReadMe! file using SimpleText - if you don't have it then get the
new Hardware System Update (version 3) from Apple. (NOT me!)
The good news - I've tested this game on a Classic, a Colour Classic and a
LC475 (all running Syst7) and the thing works just fine. Macs running
System 6 (but with _WaitNextEvent) should also be fine.
The better news - I've fixed the problem with PowerMacs (heck - it looked like
8bit colour to me but 16bit+ colour offworlds need more memory than the game
has). 500 runs fine on at least a 6100, though you could mistakenly think
the computer players are playing Snap! given how fast they throw down their
cards!!! (Hmm, I might have to slow the game down for the PowerMacs...)

#### BINHEX awesome-blackjack-15.hqx ****
From: Bryan Arntson <python@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu>
Subject: Awesome BlackJack v1.5
Date: Tue, 15 Mar 1994 22:32:57 -0500
Please replace this version 1.5 with any previous version on your system.
Thank-you.
----------------------------------------
Here is the long awaited, and latest, release of AWESOME BLACKJACK version
1.5.
This version is a SIGNIFICANT improvement over version 1.1. Some of which
include:
o Pot and Bet saved when you quit. Now you can start where you left
off!
o The Pot/Bet indicator is now a window, which you can move anywhere
you wish.
o The dealer will ask you for insurance, instead of just indicating
that you can take insurance.
o More denominations of chips: 1, 5, 25, 100, 500, 2000 & 5000.
o After a split, both hands are visible, and each hand is paid off
accordingly!
o Excellent sounds! (and ability to turn on/off certain sounds)
o Ability to switch tables!
o 52 Digitized cards ( touched up a bit since the last version )
o Default buttons.
o You get paid off in CHIPS, just like in the casinos!
o SURRENDER is available in this version too!
o Correct handling of undiscovered blackjack.
o There is now a LOSE indicator.
In addition to many other graphic improvements. Check it out yourself, and
I think you'll agree that this game is truly AWESOME!
You should download this version if you have ANY previous version.
Requirements: Macintosh, 13" 256 color monitor, 68030 or better, 800k free
ram.
This program has been tested on Mac IIsi, IIcx, IIfx, LC, LCII, Quadra's, &
Centra's.
Special Thanks to Jerry Klorman for his assistance in debugging and very
helpful suggestions about the program.

From: weasel@netcom.com (Eric Snider)
Subject: Baker's Dozen 2.1.1 (Solitaire)
Date: Fri, 4 Jun 93 2:44:46 PDT
Here's the latest version of Baker's Dozen. This is version 2.1.1. It
has some very minor changes from version 2.1. The main difference is
that I added a blurb or two about my upcoming game "Eric's Ultimate
Solitaire" which will be shipping this Fall through Delta Tao Software.
Anyway, Baker's Dozen is a one deck solitaire game. An older version
received 3 mice in MacUser. Version 2.1.1 is much better than the
version that was reviewed though.
Baker's Dozen has some cool features like:
Unlimited Undo
Supports color on color machines
Digitized Sounds
Statistics (yay!)
Double clicking to move cards
(You can still drag cards to move 'em around too)
If you like solitaire games you may want to check out my other games,
Montana, and Forty Thieves.
Baker's Dozen is shareware ($10 US). If you play it then please
register your copy, otherwise why not give it to a friend?

Moderators,
Here is yet another(last for a while I hope) update
of the cardshell games vol #1. I was alerted to a case where they
will crash during startup on an accelerated 68000 machine
without colour quickdraw. The games are meant to just quit gracefully
on any machine without colour QD. This has been fixed. Otherwise
the games are unchanged and people with working copies of the
previous versions do not really need to down load these ones.
Although if they are going to spread the games further, then
it would be a good idea to use these fixed games.
Cheers

ABOUT THE CARD SHELL GAMES VOLUME #1. v1.0.1
Code and Artwork (c)1992 Ralph S Sutherland.
Portions of code remain (c) Symantec Corp.
Welcome to the first of a series of solitaire card game releases. Volume
#1 is the first four games to be developed with a new card game framework
called the Card Shell. They all use full colour graphics including 40
pack designs and 60 background patterns.
This second 1993 release fixes a few more minor bugs.
Features include:
*They will (should?) work on all Apple screens at any colour depth.
The games require a mac with colour quickdraw capabilities (see below).
*The game applications have automatic saving of the current game
so you can play, quit and restart where you left off.
*They all have full undo and redo features to allow you to step
forward and backwards through a game and even use fast forward
and rewind to give rapid replays.
*Copies of games in play may be saved in sepearate files, in this way
several players could play the same setup and a tournament is possible.
All the saved games include their playing history.
*The game applications are designed with system 7.0 multiprocessing
in mind. When the player is not moving any cards around the games
use almost no cpu cycles and give maximum time to background processes.
When the user starts to play, the games take much more cpu time to give
a nice fast response.
*The shell design uses a shared resource file called 'Cards' which
contains all the bulky colour resources and sounds. This is around
350K. Each game can simultaneously share these reosurces, reducing
the disk space requirements greatly. Each game is about 70-90K.
For more details see the online help in the games ;-)
*****System requirements
They are designed to work best under system 7.0 or newer, although
they will still function with some loss of smoothness under system
6.0.7. The games use full 256 colour colour graphics, but they
have optimisations to work well under all depths from B&W to
32bit colour. However they require a mac with colour quickdraw.
At the moment this includes:
all Mac II computers (including the SE/30), all LCs, all Quadras,
Centris machines, Performas, the Classic II and the Colour Classic.
all powerbooks (except the PB100) and probably all newer macs.
They each want about 1MB of ram under system 7.0 and up to 1.5-2MB under
system 6 without 32bit Quickdraw

IMPORTANT: You do not require Volume #1 to use Volume #2,
but if you already have Volume #1 then you only require
one copy of the 'cards' data file. It can be shared by
all of the Card Shell games. You can simply remove the
copy that comes with volume #1 and use the Volume #2
'cards' file for all the games. This will save about
350K of disk space. [without file compression ;-)]

Requires: MacTCP,
At least one other mac connected on a network.
Chinese Poker 1.0.1 is an interactive network card game for 2 to 4 players.
It is addictive and easy to learn. (The goal is to discard your cards in
the form of valid poker hands before your opponents do.) A 60 point game is
a perfect 10 minute break.
Revision Notes:
1.0.1 + User interface corrections.
+ System 6.X compatability. (Some cards were invisible under System 6.)
+ May use either host names or addresses in the "Connect" dialog.

Date: Tue, 26 Apr 1994 13:09:21 +1300
Having taken quite a bit from the archives over the last two years it's time
give something back - my very first finished Mac Application!!!!
500_Cards lets you and your computer partner play that ol' favourite card
game 500 against an all computer partnership - first team to 500 wins (or
first to -500 looses!). I'll avoid making any grand promises about the
computer players abilities - they're okay but can/will be improved. The
cardtable window fits snuggly on a 9" monitor though more recent macs get
the advantage of colour!
The good news - I've tested this game on a Classic, a Colour Classic and a
LC475 (all running Syst7) and the thing works just fine.
The bad news - I've also tried it on our CSC shop's demo 6100 and the game
unexpectedly quits before opening it's window - if anyone wants to donate
a PowerMac I'll be happy to sort out the problem (if it's not something
really simple anyway).

Subject: Fractal Hearts (card game)
Date: Wed, 23 Mar 1994 22:56:24 +0100
It's only black-and white, but I like it!
When the new Hearts game was uploaded, I noticed that this old gem isn't
available in any of the major archives, which is a shame, since it is one
of the best games I've ever played on the Mac. No color, no sounds, just
a straight and simple implementation of Hearts - but for some reason, it
has an excellent replay value. The opponents play rather well, which makes
it pretty hard to win.
The game is from 1987, I think, and works just fine under System 7.
(Someone has added a SIZE resource, setting it to 100k, which is too
little under Sys 7, but with 130k, it works.) Might conflict with MAZ.

From: Adrian Herzog <K377212%CZHRZU1A.BITNET@Forsythe.Stanford.EDU>
To: info-mac@sumex-aim.stanford.edu
Gallery is a classical solitaire card game with following
particularities:
- Comparison of your score with the result of a "non-strategy" (i.e.
doing all legal moves in random order): Because of the great amount
of unpredictable situations even a good player looses games (about
20%).
- Statistics: The scores are recorded and evaluated; for further
analysis you can write them out to a text file.
- CAP: "computer aided playing" (optional). Level 1: Markers indicate
movable cards. Level 2: Gallery does evident, unproblematic moves
automatically for you. In most situations you have the choice from
different movable cards (or in many situations, to wait with some moves).
Thus, you concentrate your efforts in taking good decisions instead
of looking for movable cards.
Changes in version 3.0: Extended CAP options, minor bug fixing,
balloon help, preference file etc.
Gallery is free (but my children like postcards). Enjoy!

Subject: gin-rummy-20.hqx (card game)
This is version 2.0 of my Gin Rummy program. I am releasing this
version as shareware for $10. The program can be run on any Macintosh
computer. It requires 410K of memory and is 32-bit clean. This
submission is a binhexed, Stuffit 1.5.1 archive.
Gin Rummy is the well known card game for two people. The program
allows you to play against the computer. Documentation is available
online and as a "read me" file.
Version 2.0 has the following major enhancements:
1) You can move images of the cards instead of their outlines. You
can grab cards instead of dragging them. You can click to move a
card instead of clicking to select a card.
2) You can modify the points for bonuses and the points needed to
end a game.
3) You can keep a tally of the winner's victories and points.
4) You can now undo "draw a card" and "pick up discard."
5) I added the Oklahoma game variation.
In addition, several other minor problems were fixed. The changes are
documented in the "read me" file.

I apologize for the laziness for not personalizing everyone's account.
I had only figured on a few people being interested in receiving the
game. I have sent the game to Sumex-Aim, so hopefully they will archive
it.
Here is the copy of MacJong V0.20 that I agreed to send. I would be
most appreciative of anyone who can translate the score sheet and the
instruction screen. Also, if anybody can figure out how to win the
game without having to play each "book" singly, please tell me!
I had mentioned that I would be willing to help someone redesign or
improve a Mahjongg game. My intention is not to be the driving force in
this endeavor. I would not know the first thing in programming a Mac game.
But I can color, draw, test, and the such. In other words, I wouldn't mind
being a "little helper"!!!!! Possibly a collaborative effort from many????
The game is right behind this mailing. It has been BinHexed and compressed
by Stuffit Deluxe 3.06.
Happy playing and may the East winds calm your dragon.
Please recycle.

Here's a new version of the card game "Mille Bornes". Some of you may
remember "1000 Miles" by Robert Harris; well, I re-wrote it to look a bit
sharper.
The program requires an 8-bit, 13" (or larger) monitor, in order to run.
Also, the sound doesn't work unless you're running system 7.

From: spohn@newton.mayo.edu
Subject: Pair Picker 0.2B
Pair Picker is a simple concentration style game with a couple of wrinkles
thrown in. This version only supports two players - future versions will
get into solitaire options and possibly networkability. 52 cards are dealt
in the playing area and the players take turns "flipping" them over to find
a match. When a match is found, the player gets another turn. The first
player to match more than half the cards wins. Ties are settled by
whomever matches the bonus pair. Each player is allowed to "preview" and
"reshuffle" the cards once per game. The graphics and modest animation
support both color and b/w environments. This version is freeware. Please

Here is the latest COLOR version of the card game Pinochle (this
is a double-deck version). Besides color, this version includes many
more user selectable options and better bidding.
Registered users have already received a free update, but this
version has a little more pollish than the one they got.

The Solitaire of Champions (Yes, I know it's a stupid name -- I couldn't
think of better.)
This solitaire game is a great new form that I've never seen a computerized
version of before. All 52 cards are dealt, the object is to line them up
in 4 rows in order starting with 2 and ending with K. Full instructions
are included in the game's on-line help.
Requires color Quickdraw, but supports B&W graphics. (Although the only
machine that has both color Quickdraw and is B&W only is the SE/30. But,
that's what I've got, so... ;-)
Hope you like it!

Subject: Strip-Mac! 3.0.1 -- Adult party game
Date: Mon, 02 May 1994 10:10:08 +0800
A quick outline of the game Strip-Mac! is a risque, computer-moderated
party game for adults. It is similar to a game of strip poker, but with
"surprises", "rewards" and "punishments" thrown in for good measure.
Briefly, the game plays as follows. Players take turns in drawing a
playing card from the deck. A player who fails to turn up an appropriate
playing card must then choose between options that include:
(a) being paid to removing a piece of clothing;
(b) being paid to take a punishment; and
(c) purchasing a reward.
Play continues until one or all players are naked. What happens next is
up to you. Version 3.0.1 fixes a few bugs in version 3.0, and adds a few
new cards.
Cheers,
Tim North.

Tarantula 1.0.0
Tarantula is the game of solitaire commonly known as "Spider".
Tarantula isn't easy to win but I've added some options to
help with that.
Requirements: a Mac and System 6 or 7. Tarantula supports
all color depths as well as black and white.
Features:
- multiple tableaus. Play games simultaneously!
- cheat options that relax the rules and make Tarantula
easier to win.
- selectable card faces and backs. Play in color or B&W.
- unlimited undo and redo. Undo or redo all the way back
to the beginning of your game.
- save and restore games. All your moves are saved and
restored too.
- set your preferences for cheat options, card faces and
decks, and sound.
- resizeable card stacks
- double click makes the best move.

This is version 1.0.1 of the Eric's Ultimate Solitaire Demo from Delta
Tao software. It plays Eight Off which is one of the 17 solitaire
games that the full version offers. It supports color and b&w and has
lots of great features. You can move cards by dragging, double
clicking, and "throwing." To throw a card you give it a flick towards
a target and let go. Then it'll fly in a nice arc to the destination.
Other features include unlimited undo/redo, statistics, and what we
like to call "Weasel flavor." The artwork is by Howard Vives the same
artist that drew everything for Spaceward Ho!
That's it... Eric's Ultimate Solitaire demo is for free distribution
only. The retail price of the full version is $59 and is available
from the big mail order places or from Delta Tao directly. Delta Tao's
number is (800) 827-9316 or (408) 730-9336.
If you are a registered user of one of my shareware games (Forty
Thieves, Baker's Dozen, and Montana) then you can upgrade to Ultimate
Solitaire for $25.

Video Poker ... NOT! Version 1.1
It may look like Video Poker, but it's not. If you like to win, VPN lets
you cheat. If you like to understand, VPN provides tools. If VPN does
not convince you to stop playing Video Poker, it may make you a better
player. Features of VPN include:
1. strength analyses help understand probabilities.
2. fast advice heuristics tell the best way to play a hand.
3. play two hands at once to compare strategies.
4. set up hands to study specfic situations.
5. change pay outs to study their effect on strategy.
6. better than average card graphics, with some surprises.
VPN should run on any 68020 or higher Mac with System 6.0.7 or later.
Card displays look best on a color monitor.

This is version 2.0.3 of War of Flowers.
War of Flowers is an oriental card game.
The deck consists of 48 cards (4 cards for each month of a year).
The rule is based on a game known as Go-Stop.
*** System Requirement
- System 6.0.7 (or later) with ColorQuickDraw or System 7.
- Monitor at least 10" (640x400) large.
*** What's new in version 2.0.3
- Some cosmetic changes.
*** What's new in version 2.0.2
- High Score function added (only for System 7 users).
High Score record keeps names of top 10 players who made the most money
out of a game. (That is out of a game, not out of a war). If the player uses
the Cheat command during a game, he/she will not be listed in the High Score
record no matter how much money he/she made.
*** What's new in version 2.0.1
- Some sound conflicts were solved.
Enjoy.
Moderators, please replace the old version in game/crd directory with this one.
This may be included on the info-mac CD ROM.
